Syktyvkar - A Territory Free From TB

EB Fund and the partners in Komi have launched the Russian-Norwegian project Syktyvkar - a Territory Free from TB.

The project is designed for 3 years.

The project is aimed at reducing the incidence of tuberculosis in the city of Syktyvkar to the lowest figures. Mortality from this infection should also be brought to zero. Tuberculosis is a curable disease and no patient should die from it!

On February 4, there was a zoom meeting between the EB fund's representatives and the Head Doctor and the specialists of the Republican TB Dispensary, Head Doctor of the Republican AIDS Center, a representative of the Ministry of Health of the Komi Republic took place, at which the ways of implementing the project's activities were considered.

In 2021, additional work of specialists of the tuberculosis service will be directed to:

- outreach and examination of the TB high risk population of Syktyvkar - these are PLHIV, TB contacts, the homeless, migrants, children, patients taking hormones and anticancer drugs for a long time.

- treatment of latent tuberculosis infection, with the use of new tuberculosis drugs and modern treatment regimens.

The expansion of patient-oriented technologies also continues: treatment of patients on an outpatient basis using digital technologies is video-DOT, the provision of psychological and targeted financial assistance to patients during outpatient treatment.

And, of course, one of the important sections of joint work in the project is the advanced training of medical workers in Syktyvkar on the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. Additional training events will be held not only for specialists of the TB dispensary, but also for medical workers of other medical and preventive institutions.

Success in overcoming tuberculosis depends on the consistent, joint work of all health authorities and civil society!
