International Project Severodvinsk - A City Free From TB - the First Year OF Implementation

The results of the Russian-Norwegian project "Severodvinsk - a City Free From Tuberculosis" were summed up on the meeting in the Severodvinsk city hospital No. 1, which took place on March 17, 2020. More than 50 people took part in its work - medical workers of the city, representatives of the city administration, Nina Nizovtseva, Chair of the EB Fund.

The project is aimed not only at identifying and treating new cases of tuberculosis and tuberculosis in the HIV+ group, but also at involving high risk groups to being screened for tuberculosis, including latent tuberculosis infection. These are people who have found themselves in a difficult life situation due to the loss of work, home, migrants, TB contacts, as well as people suffering from chronic diseases in which immunity is affected.

All project activities planned for 2019 were completed.

The epidemiological situation with regard to tuberculosis in the city is improving: morbidity and mortality from tuberculosis is decreasing. The quality of treatment is improving. In the past 2019, there was not a single relapse of the disease among the previously cured patients. The team of the TB dispensary department of the City Hospital ¹1 managed to achieve such results by consistently introducing new directions and treatments. The department widely uses patient-centered technologies - the use of video-obesred treatment (a medical worker observes the patient's medication intake; if necessary, patients receive targeted financial assistance).

The head of the TB dispensary department N. Vlasova told about the new directions of the their' work. N. Nizovtseva spoke about collaboration and the targeted assistance to the patients.

During the work of the meeting, the ways and possibilities of applying VOT and treatment for other diseases were considered, and the perspectives of further collaborations in the project "Severodvinsk - a City Free From Tuberculosis" were discussed.

R. Kartashova, Chief Phthisiatrician of Severodvinsk Hospital No. 1, summed up the results of the meeting and outlined the directions for further joint work.
