#ENDTB

World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated every year on March 24 to intensify efforts to combat the global tuberculosis epidemic. On this day, in 1882, the German scientist Robert Koch announced that he had succeeded in discovering the bacterium that causes tuberculosis, thanks to which in the future it became possible to develop methods of diagnosing and treating this disease.
Since 2000, an estimated 54 million lives have been saved by global efforts to fight tuberculosis, and the death rate from tuberculosis has decreased by 42%.
However, tuberculosis is still the leading cause of death from infectious diseases in the world. Every day, almost 4,500 people die from this preventable and treatable disease, and almost 30,000 people get infected.
This year WHO calls on governments, communities affected by tuberculosis, civil society organizations, health facilities and national and international partners to join forces under the motto “Find. Treat. All. #EndTB”.
